Historical Significance of Eleanor Rigby - 3568 Words
Overview A song by Beatles, Eleanor Rigby was released simultaneously on the album Revolver in the year 1966 as well as on a 45 rpm single. Primarily, the song was written by Paul McCartney and was dedicated to Lennon McCartney (Miles, 1997). George Martin did a great job at making a string quartet arrangement. The striking lyrics about loneliness along with the arrangement transformed the kind of songs from what were mostly pop-oriented to the kind that were studio-based. There is no second opinion about the fact that this song made a dent in the conventions of the popular music; both in terms of lyrics and music (Campbell and Bondy, 2008). Pertaining to the fates and concerns of the elderly that are mostly neglected, Richie Unterberger has said that this is one of the main reasons why Beatles have been able to catch the attention of people who are beyond the traditional rock audience (Unterberger, 2013). Historical Significance This song also has a historical connotation since there is a gravestone by the name of Eleanor Rigby in St. Peters Churchyard that is situated in Woolton, United Kingdom. It should be noted that Woolton is a suburb of the city of Liverpool and this is where Lennon and McCartney first met during a fete at St. Peters Church. According to the gravestone that bears the name of Eleanor, she died at the age of 44 in the year 1939. Nonetheless, Eleanor is not the kind of lonely people that the Beatles have stressed upon in their song as she was
Enacting Spiritual Leadership in Business
Question: Discuss about the Enacting Spiritual Leadership in Business. Answer: Introduction: Each and every organization irrespective of the fact whether it is a local or international organization is fuelled by the employees who work behind it. The fact that the employees are offered salaries for individual and group services for their work is simply not enough. The organizations have identified and realized the need for compensating the inadequacies of the environment of work for their employees. The best method that can be possible used to achieve these objectives is motivation (Galanou Farrag, 2015). Motivation can be defined as the process that accounts for the direction, intensity, and persistence of efforts towards achievement or objectives. Motivation occurs when an individual counters a specific instance or situation that stimulates the drive of the individual to achieve something. As per Klaus Fernando, the employees need motivation as it provides them many reasons to work dedicatedly except for the financial aspect that an organization has to offer to the employees as fixed salaries (Klaus Fernando, 2016). Creating motivation by understanding the behavior of the employee would give the employees a boost to work in the orientation of the organization. This indirectly enhances the profitability of the organization. Theory of Goal setting The goals setting and motivation theory of the research of Dr. Edwin A. Locke is considered among the top theories of management. This theory states that setting of goals and task motivation is integrally associated to the performing of the tasks. It further states those specific and demanding goals along with the appropriate feedback better and more efficient performance of tasks. Swanson Frederick said that the goals and objectives give direction to an individual regarding what to be done and to what degree efforts are to be put in (Swanson Frederick, 2016). The prominent features of the goal setting theory are reflected in the context of creating motivation in the environment of work. The main source of motivation is employees should have the willingness to work in orientation towards the achievement of the objectives and goals of the organization. It is also observed in organizations that specific, clear and challenging goals prove to be greater factors of motivation than the generalized, easy and vague goals. While creating motivation in the environment of work, clear and specific goals shall lead to better performance and greater output. On the other hand measurable, unambiguous goals that are designated to be completed within a deadline avoid misunderstandings in the work environment. It is further observed that appropriate feedback of the results has a direct implication on the behavior of the employee which leads to the contribution of better and efficient feedback that the cases where feedback is not provided. As per Syed, et al, providing feedback to the employees in the work environment of an organization facilitates a medium of attaining reputation regulations or handling of difficulties in of goals and making clarifications (Syed, et al., 2016). It assists the employees to work with an increased involvement that leads to higher satisfaction in the job. While creating a motivating environment at work, it is required to create and assign goals that are challenging and realistic. This will give the employees a feeling of victory and pride when he achieves the goals. This automatically motivates the employee to prepare himself for attaining the next higher goal (Swanson Frederick, 2016). To create a motivating environment at work, it is to be kept into consideration that the more challenging the objectives, aims, and goals will be, the greater the rewards will be along with the creation of more passion. The Leader who takes the Team Forward The goal setting theory can find relevance in the leadership role played by Catherine Crowley, Director of People and Culture at Swisse, Australia. For the creation of motivation at work environment along with the setting of goals in the organization, it has been researched that there are instances when the industry cares deeply about its employees and lets them to have the best of work experiences in the organization. As per Syed, et al, being in the position of Director of People and Culture, she had decided to overhaul the culture of the organization when the company saw the reduction in its profits (Syed, et al., 2016). The leader believed that culture is feed by leadership and leadership that is desired in the organization is dictated by the culture. The leadership at Swisse has been very efficient in motivating its employees with its own strategies and implementation of goals setting in its own fashion. It no longer remains as a mere instance that the employees at Swisse make use of the polite and positive language so as to motivate the employees (Swanson Frederick, 2016). Instances of creating a motivating environment in the workplace include the substitution of the words such as team " for the employees or staff, "problem " for the challenge along with using words like "improve", "learn" and "grow". The employees are also given targets and deadlines to meet which is providing them with the competitive environment and motivation to work for their benefits. Importance of Leadership It is very important in leadership to include the motivation in an organization as without it the contribution of a leader to the organization is incomplete. According to Klaus Fernand, the aspect of leadership is to combine the goals of work with the goals of the employee. So as a leader, motivation of employees is an integral aspect of making sure that the goals of work are in alignment with the goals of the work. A leader also needs to understand the factors that motivate each employee (Klaus Fernando, 2016). As a leader, the best thing to do is to motivate the employees in the organization. For instances, at Woolworth has integrated engagement of employee by establishing a culture that is motivated by performance in an organization. This has increased the accountability and helped in recognizing, managing, and rewarding the employees whose performances are aligned with the objectives of the company. This has simply been achieved by inculcating motivation in the work environment of Woolworth. Motivate the Employees and See the Result In this report, the discussion regarding creating motivation in the work environment is done. The meaning of motivation and the importance of creating a motivating environment in a workplace is emphasized. The need for motivating the employees and its implications on the business of any organizations is reflected. The relevance of goal setting theory and how to organizations can implement the techniques of goals setting theories to achieve effective outcomes in the organizations are reflected (Galanou Farrag, 2015). The theory of goal setting refers to the setting of objectives and goals for the employees so as to promote a competitive environment in the workplace which would motivate the employees to give better performances. This will directly get reflected in better productivity of the organization as a whole. The role of leaders and leadership is very important in creating a motivating work environment for the employees. The instances of integration of motivation in the work environment and leadership are illustrated. Conclusion: It can be said that creating a motivation work environment is essential in any organization. The researches have shown that motivation has direct implications on the performance of the employees as well as the overall productivity of any organization. Organizations have realized the importance of motivation in their environment and have been implementing different methods to achieve these objectives. References Galanou, A. and Farrag, D.A., 2015. Twelve Angry Men Persuasive Essay Example For Students
Twelve Angry Men Persuasive Essay Sometimes in life your professions reflect on your personalities. Twelve Angry Men is an example of where this occurs. Twelve men are brought together in a room to decide whether a boy is guilty of killing his father. Whether they brought good or bad qualities from their profession, they all affected the outcome. The leadership skills of Courtney Vance, the compassion of Dorian Harwood, and the opinionated Tony Danza affected the actions and decisions in the jury room. Courtney Vance is a high school football coach; his position in the jury room is a foreman. On the football field, Vance acts as a mediator, a leader, and an organizer. We will write a custom essay on Twelve Angry Men Persuasive specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now As a foreman for this trial, Vance definitely carries all those traits into the jury room with him. If it were not for Vance, there would not have been any order in the jury room. He acts as a coach in the jury room as he formed fine lines of respect. He acts as a mediator for all of the arguments that went on in the jury room. Every time, Vance is there to calm everyone down and gain back order in the room. His leadership skills also shine in the jury room as well. He controls and leads every discussion, speaking order, voting, nd demonstration. Vance takes on the leading role and handles it well. He also brings organization into the jury room by organizing the juries, the discussions, and the votes. With the excellent traits that Vance brings into the jury room, he allows the trial to run smoothly and effectively. Dorian Harwood? s profession as nurse also shapes his actions in the jury room. In the jury room, he acts with compassion and respect. As a nurse he does the same. His compassion lies in caring for another. He relates that to the trial by thinking of the boy as one of his patients. He wants him to have a fair hance at life, and therefore wants him to have a fair trial. In the jury room, he acts with respect because he is very unsure about the case, and really does not know how he feels about things. So when it is his turn to talk he passes to hear the others before he makes the wrong assumption. With these actions he shows a lot of respect for not only the boy on trial, but also to the other juries. Harwood definitely shows compassion and respect in the jury room, and all of these strong traits come from his experience as a nurse. Tony Danza, a salesman, definitely brings his working traits with him in the ury room. As a salesman, he is impatient, opinionated, and rude. Tony does not care about anyone but himself. He shows that he is very impatient by not even thinking about the trial but rather the baseball tickets that he has for that night. He just wants to get out of there as soon as he can. He is very opinionated and that definitely stands out in the jury room. He does not care what anyone has to say. He has his own beliefs and does not care or want to hear anyone else? s views. He is also known to be rude, because he shows no compassion or thought towards the boy on trial and he just wants to get it over ith. He does not even stop to think that someone? s life is on the line, he is too concerned about his own. Tony? s profession does not give him the best qualities, as he does not have the best qualities in the jury room. Courtney Vance, Dorian Harwood, and Tony Danza are three men who are shaped by the professions in which they live. Their professions give the men certain qualities, good and bad, that they carry with them into other parts of their lives. Each man shows these qualities in the jury room and they affect the actions and decisions that are made.

The Fine Arts Reduced to a Sin essays
The Fine Arts Reduced to a Sin essays The Fine Arts Reduced to a Single Principle? The theory that all art is imitation is a good starting point to deciphering what exactly art is, but it is not the cornerstone, contrary to Plato, Aristotle, and Batteuxs beliefs may be. Batteauxs Single Principle of the fine arts suggests that all art is imitation of beautiful nature conveyed through colours, relief, and attitudes. An obvious counter argument to that theory is music. As one of the fine arts Music in general is not imitative. Possibly earlier chanting rituals could be related to imitative animal sounds, as Carroll suggests, and even Rap artists from today such as DMX might fit in this category; who imitate animal sounds in their music, whether it be by barking, or even cooing like a pigeon. But to suggest that symphonies that were in existence at the time of Batteauxs text are imitative is absurd. Most of the early theories on art are irrelevant to todays work, the definitions dont seem to have a very long shelf life as the artists are constantly trying to ou t do the philosophers. Its almost like a game. To classify all art under one category is a daunting and in my opinion futile task. Consider all the different genres of art, from music to painting to sculpture to dance to film, and then from there, divide those into their own respective genres, abstract, symbolist, surrealist, et al. There cannot be a single definition for all forms of art today. In each philosophys time, Im sure they were fairly accurate in their theory of their art, but to think of relating these primitive theories to todays art is absurd to say the least. Neo-representationalism is the closest theory of art in the first readings. To say that art has to be about something is very accurate, art has a purpose, it is created for a reason, therefore it is about something. To be able to classify such difficult art pieces such as ready- ...

Buddhism vs. Christianity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Buddhism vs. Christianity - Essay Example The life of Buddha, the founder of Buddhism started as Siddhartha, the boy who was born in the abundance of life. His father denied him the opportunities of confronting with the real trials and tribulations of life. But Buddha happened to witness certain sights, later referred as the Four Sights of Buddha, which made him realize the realities of life and it ultimately paved the way for Buddhism. It was at the request of his son Siddhartha, the king allowed him to visit the beautiful park outside the palace. Though the father was precautious enough to wrap all the unpleasant sights from his son, some of them caught the sight of him. The sight of Old Age was the first one and it really haunted Siddhartha as it was his debut experience. The haggard state of an old man roused a number of questions in his mind and it provided him a hint about the hard realities of life. His realization that no one can prevent from being old has exerted significant influence in his later teachings. It is the second visit that enables him to encounter with the fearful state of sickness, like the sight of old age torments his mentally. Afterwards, the sights of death and renunciation, the third and fourth respectively, also have the same effect on Siddhartha. This leads him to realize that there are two ways to solve the problems of lifeââ¬âone is to lead a pleasant life by totally ignoring all the problems of life and the other way is realizing that all these sufferings are the part of life and try to overcome these problems. Siddhartha selected the second as it was far better than the first and preached by giving up his luxurious life in the palace. The birth of Jesus was just different from that of Buddha who took birth as a man 2000 years ago in the town of Bethlehem in the land of Israel. One of the notable similarities between the lives of Buddha and Jesus is that both lived a life of simplicity and showed others the real value of it. But a

Statistical computation of maximum likelihood estimates using R Math Problem
Statistical computation of maximum likelihood estimates using R - Math Problem Example SMA do not account for seasonal changes. The duration of the moving average can best be determined according to the type of application data to forecast. Long time periods gives smoother response by removing random variations but react slower to changes in the data as it lags the trend. Short time periods produce more oscillation but closely follow the trend. SMA is calculated by averaging the most recent number of actual values. SMA is calculated by using the following equation (Chase & Jacobs 2006): Where Ft Forecast for coming period At-1 Actual value in the past At-2, At-3, Actual values two, three, periods ago. N Number of periods to be averaged In the attached excel document, SMA is calculated for three periods: three, four, and five. Different n time periods will produce different results of data values. The values of MAD corresponding to each period are shown in the following table: Table 1: MAD values for different periods of SMA Time Period (n) MAD 3 4.36 4 3.10 5 3.95 Table one demonstrates that the smallest value of MAD exists for the period of n=4. This indicates that the type of data being analyzed is best estimated using a period of four. Figure 1: SMA for periods of 3,4, and 5. Figure one confirms the results of MAD analysis from table one. The best fit trend line is the SMA for n=4. This line follows the actual data curve specially on the 15th, 22, and 25 where major change occurred in wind speed. The period that best fits the actual data is dependent on the type of data analyzed which is the wind speed. A general rule applies that recent past is more indicative of the future and should get higher weighting. However, if the data are seasonal weights should be established accordingly. The weighted moving average advantage over the simple moving average is the ability to vary the effects of past data. In the excel document, in the Weighted SMA sheet, the weights of the moving average are determined by trial and error to produce the least value of MAD since there is no expert opinion as to guide the setup of
